Fail-safe position Predefined position of a valve that is automatically approached in the event of a malfunction. An example of this is a spring-closing drive, which closes the valve automatically in the event of a failure of the control air or the auxiliary power. Bellows seal Part which, with the help of a bellows, seals the passage of the actuating element through the pressure-bearing housing. Spring return s. Fail safe position. For manually operated valves, the spring return can also be designed so that, after releasing the hand lever, the valve closes automatically. Manufacturing Inspection Inspection performed on fittings during the production process to confirm that the production complies with the specified requirements. Moment of strength Moment applied to the actuator or when mounted the actuator and for which the valve is designed. Firesafe Constructive design of a valve that guarantees a tightness of the closed valve for a well-defined time even in case of fire. Fire Safe tests are regulated in BS 6755: part 2 and in the API. Flange connection Housing end with a flange for connection to an appropriate flange. Externally operated safety shut-off valve Valve, which is controlled by eg a drive. The safety position is usually approached by a closing spring integrated in the drive. Housing Main part of the valve, which contains the flow channels and the housing ends. Housing in Through-Housing Housing having two housing end openings and with the axis, top or lid parallel to the end surfaces of the housing end openings. Enclosed housing Enclosure having two end openings and with the axis, top or lid parallel to the end faces of the housing end openings. Threaded end of housing prepared with an internal or external thread for connection to a corresponding threaded part. Faucet fitting with a closure body which rotates transversely to the flow around an axis and flows through in the open position. Hand lever Swiveling arm for actuating a valve by hand. Handwheel Wheel for actuating a valve by hand. Lift valve A valve with a spherical housing whose throttle body moves in a direction perpendicular to the seating plane. Internal Spindle Thread Spindle moving thread in contact with the flow medium inside the valve. Integral passage Full, non-necked passage of a ball valve. The passage corresponds approximately to the diameter of the connected pipeline. Joukowski - shock pressure surge within a piping system. The surge often occurs with incompressible media. The trigger can be a too fast closing valve; even during the pigging of a plant, a pressure surge can occur.
